Tina Hay, Editor of The Penn Stater Magazine – April PR Series Speaker

The Media Savvy Public Relations Seminar Series Session for April will feature Tina Hay, Editor of The Penn Stater Magazine. Ms. Hay’s magazine has won nearly two dozen awards for its honest and unflinching coverage of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal at Penn State University. Her session for the Public Relations Seminar will focus on how an alumni magazine, and its online blog, were able to address a crisis with a candor that people don’t usually expect from an institutional publication.

Ms. Hay possesses a bachelor’s degree in Management from Penn State University where she also worked for thirteen years doing communications for the university’s College of Health and Human Development. She has been editor of The Penn Stater since 1996.

The Media Savvy Public Relations Seminar Series was developed to provide a thorough understanding and application of public relations techniques as it spans an impressive range of topics from Public Relations 101 to development of your own media plan.  The series will run monthly (on the 3rd Thursday) through September.

This session of the Public Relations series will be held on April 18th from 9 am to 11 am at the Raystown Lake Region Visitor’s Center at Seven Points of Raystown Lake.  The cost to attend the session is $15 for members of Huntingdon County Business and Industry, Chamber of Commerce or Visitors Bureau, and $25 for non-members. The session will include a continental breakfast courtesy of Standing Stone Coffee Company of Huntingdon.

Employer Sponsored Healthcare, Private or Public Healthcare Exchange, What is Best for your Organization?

Employer Sponsored Healthcare, Private or Public Healthcare Exchange, What is Best for your Organization?

The Affordable Care Act continues to affect business with 50 or more full time employees. Many businesses still aren’t clear on what their obligations are. To help answer your questions and to discuss public and private healthcare exchanges, we’ve invited Chet Rhoades and Bev Kossum to talk with local employers.

“Employer Sponsored Healthcare, Private or Public Healthcare Exchange, What is Best for your Organization?” will be held on Tuesday, February 12 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the JC Blair Memorial Hospital Education Center at 1225 Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon.

Learn about the options employers will have in 2014. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) has certainly created many decisions, and actions for employers to comply with. See what options might be best for your organization, as well as learn what is on the horizon (Employer Notification Requirement to Employees of Exchanges – March 2013, Definition of Full-time Employees for Penalty Purposes – Examples of Seasonal Employees, etc.). The penalty, available and affordable coverage will not affect businesses under 50 full time employees.

Guest speaker, Chet Rhoads, Executive Vice President, began his career at HDH Group in 1993. His role at HDH involves the development of benefit programs that will protect mid to large size employer’s balance sheet and human capital.  His extensive advisory experience positions employers to develop initiatives to prevent, mitigate, transfer, or finance claims.  This includes but is not limited to consortiums, alternative financing methods and population health management.  Chet particularly enjoys the consolidation of risk pools, companies with a multiple state footprint, and keeping employees healthy and productive while at work.

Bev Kossum’s experience with employee benefits spans more than 30 years. She has worked with the HDH Group for more than fourteen years and is responsible for regulatory compliance and consulting on health and welfare plans including development of ERISA Summary Plan Descriptions and completion of annual government filing requirements for clients.  Additionally, Bev provides consulting services related to compliance with laws that affect employee benefits programs including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, PPACA and Sections 125, 132 and 223 of the Internal Revenue Code.
